Calendar and Important Dates (tentative)

Important Note: The dates listed below represent the approximate timeline for the REU-Site Program and may vary slightly from year to year. If the application deadline is extended, the review timeline and subsequent important dates may be adjusted accordingly. Please refer to the official REU flyer and the first page of the application for the exact deadlines and program dates.

  • Mid-November Applications for the Summer REU-Site Program open. We strongly recommend that applicants complete their applications before the deadline. If you have any questions regarding the application process or need assistance, please contact by email wmerchan-merchan@ou.edu.
  • Last Week of February Application deadline. Complete application packages must be submitted by this date.
  • First Week of March Application review completed. The REU team completes the review of all submitted application packages.
  • Last Week of March Offers sent to selected students. Selected students will have approximately one week to accept or decline their offer. Applicants who are competitive but cannot be accommodated initially may be placed on a waitlist until available positions are confirmed.
  • First Week of April Deadline for selected students to accept or decline offers.
  • Mid-April Notification of applicants not selected for the program.
  • By Early May Research mentor assignments. Student groups are paired with research mentors based on project availability and input from student and mentor surveys.
  • Middle of the Last Week of May REU participants arrive in Norman, Oklahoma. Students may move into university housing and prepare for the start of the program.
  • Final Week of May Summer REU-Site Program begins. The first day of the 10-week program will be hosted at the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) in Felgar Hall (FH) and will include program orientation, introductions to fellow participants and research mentors, campus tours, and required onboarding activities. Students will meet with their research mentors, receive information about the program expectations, obtain student identification cards, and visit several AME research facilities and laboratories. Facility tours may include the AME machine shop, DroneDome, wind tunnel, Psychrometric Chamber, Full-Size Test Loop Station (OPENLAB), Samuel Roberts Noble Microscopy Laboratory, and other research facilities. Additional tours may be scheduled during the first days of the program as needed.
  • Last Week of July Final group research presentations.
  • Last Week of July Final written reports due.
  • Last Day of July Final day of the REU-Site Program. The program concludes with feedback on final research presentations, final written reports, and participant reflections on their summer research experience.
